All of our remanufactured Cruise Control Amplifiers (with the exception of those sold at auction) now carry a 2-year limited warranty. This longer warranty even applies retroactively to amplifiers that were previously refurbished. We want everyone to benefit from the technical knowledge we've gained over the years. We will replace or repair any of our remanufactured amplifiers for a period of two years from our shipping date. If reasonable proof is shown of a later installation date, the warranty will be extended to that date. This allows stocking of modules.
Very few of our amplifiers fail... well less than one percent. But sometimes the amplifier is blamed when there is still something else wrong with the system. We test and issue test results for every unit returned under warranty. If the amp is truly defective or needs adjustment, we pay return ground shipping and will repair or exchange the amplifier. If the amp, however, tests perfectly, there is a $65 bench test for each unit, plus a packing and return ground shipping fee. Faster shipping and/or special handling cost more.
If the unit requires road testing there is an additional $65 fee plus milage ($.50 per mile if the test exceeds 10 miles.)
You can avoid these charges if you make sure that your mechanic is qualified and competent to troubleshoot these systems. They can be very tricky for those cases where there are multiple problems. Our test rates are extremely reasonable considering that it takes between an hour and two hours to thoroughly test a cruise system not even considering receiving, billing, packing and shipping. Our engineering billing rate is $120 per hour. I am afraid we don't have the time or resources to perform free work because your technician has not properly evaluated your system. We have never, in the entire period that we have remanufactured these units - over 20 years - sent out a cruise amp that was DOA. If the system appears that it is not working perfectly after installation, do not keep trying it. Make sure someone qualified is absolutely sure that there is not something else wrong with the system before deciding to send us the unit for evaluation.
The warranty does not cover shop labor and installation costs.
The warranty is void if the seal is broken or the case opened or if the power output section(s) is/are blown due to mishandling. During initial installation in the case of the 14-pin amps with the motor-actuator system, care must be taken to be sure that the actuator does not draw excessive current in both the motor circuit and the solenoid circuit and that the actuator arm moves freely. The only way to blow the amplifier output section is to plug into a bad actuator, apply the wrong volt-ages to certain connector pins. The actuator must be checked before installation of the amplifier. If the system is erratic or non-operative after installation of our amplifier, please check the actuator! A failure of the amplifier for this reason is not our fault. We expect that the Mercedes technician or vehicle owner observes a procedure that will protect against such amplifier failure.
Another instance where the warranty is void is in the case where there is faulty throttle linkage which causes binding or excessive throttle return spring pressure. This can put undue strain on the actuator which will cause it to fail prematurely and, in turn, damage the amplifier. Again, it is the responsibility of the Mercedes technician or vehicle owner to ensure proper linkage operation.
We offer a lifetime warranty which extends the normal warranty for as long as the vehicle is owned by the same individual or organization. This service is available at any time during the normal warranty period. Please read the "Lifetime Warranty" page.
We request a simple two-step procedure prior to return for warranty work. 1) Check boxes on a short "squawk sheet" (available from us) which tells us what may be wrong and 2) obtain a "return authorization number" so that we may track the return, test and repair/replacement of the unit.
