VDO and Bosch

The electronic modules in German automobiles are usually made by two companies: Bosch and VDO.

VDO ("Vereinigte DEUTA-OTA") – Name and trademark originated from the merger in 1929 of OTA Apparate GmbH with a Division of DEUTA (Deutsche Tachometerwerke GmbH). Since the end of 1991, the VDO Group has formed part of Mannesmann.
